Dear Friends,
I am deeply conscious of a sense of honour, gratitude and humility as I take on the role of MSR President 2024 – 2026. I feel that I have come full circle, from joining the society as a young trainee, having had the opportunity to share in the joys, sorrows and burdens of various committee positions under 5 previous presidents to my current privilege to serve as president of the society. The legacy and foundation laid by my predecessors behoves me to uphold this new responsibility with humility, gratitude and sincerity. On behalf of the incoming office-bearers, I would like to express our appreciation to the outgoing committee and hope to continue the good work, under the guidance of the immediate past president, Dr Asmah.
In this new chapter of the society, we hope to continue our mission to promote the growth of rheumatology by fostering education and the dissemination of information whilst also striving to consolidate our position as an important stakeholder in various networks, bodies and organisations be it locally or internationally. We cherish the idea that the society can provide a conducive, supportive and stimulating space in which aspiring individuals can be nurtured and mentored to new heights of scientific discovery, professional regard and community leadership. Knowledge sharing platforms, community awareness and capacity building are among the endeavours undertaken by the society towards achieving these goals.
I am aware that there are many challenges be it from financial sustainability, lack of human resources or economic instability but I strongly believe that with the support and commitment from all members of the society, we can forge ahead to overcome these barriers. I welcome all members to participate actively, get involved and help us realise our goals and create an impact in what we do.
In a world which is becoming increasingly fractured and divisive, it is heartwarming and encouraging that we still have this bond of friendship and togetherness within this rheumatology family. Let us work together as a team, as stalwarts of rheumatology in Malaysia, amongst those that have gone before and for those who will come after.
